BOONVILLE — The Elkin girl’s soccer club bounced back from a tough defeat with a 2-1 win over Starmount on a soggy Tuesday evening.

The Buckin’ Elks evened up their Northwest 1A Conference record at 1-1-1 (after Thursday’s 0-0 draw at Alleghany) and got back on track after they lost five of their previous six matches.

Elkin used goals from a pair of sophomores to collect the win, which included Marley Wolfe’s score in the 62nd minute that turned out to be the eventual game-winner.

Fellow tenth-grader Allie Summers staked the Buckin’ Elks (3-5-1) to an early one-goal advantage in the 12th minute.

Tania Lorenzo added an assist in the win.

The Rams, who scored in back-to-back matches after being shutout in the previous four matches, tried to notch the equalizer but were turned away.

That was until the 28th minute when Maribel Navarro charged down the pitch after receiving a pass from Ashley Medel.

The freshman’s initial attempt was stopped by Jada Harper. But the sophomore keeper couldn’t handle the ball and Navarro capitalized on the live ball to tie the match.

Elkin outshot the Rams 18-9; despite facing twice as many shot attempts, Emma Caudle was strong in goal as the sophomore collected 14 saves.

While Harper was between the pipes in the first half, Molly Stevens patrolled the goal in the second half and collected a clean sheet with a trio of saves.

The Buckin’ Elks hosted unbeaten Mount Airy (7-0-1, x-x) on Tuesday and then host South Stokes on Thursday.

Starmount (0-7-1, 0-3), which will now be off until April 13 (when it hosts North Stokes), dropped two more matches this past week. After a 3-0 loss at South Stokes last Thursday, North Rowan (3-6) bested the Rams, 2-1.

Isabel Romero scored in the first half for the Rams, who outshot the Cavaliers 20-11, on an assist from Mairley Maldonado.

Caudle collected nine stops against North Rowan.
