Moonray Studios is bringing its Ethereum-based multiplayer game Moonray to mobile platforms, expanding beyond its original PC release.
Initially launched on the Epic Games Store in Early Access, the game combines traditional gaming mechanics with optional blockchain features, attracting investment from major firms like Animoca Brands, Polygon Ventures, and Cardano.
By launching on mobile, Moonray seeks to increase its reach in the gaming market whilst developing its unique IP across multiple platforms.
What is Moonray?
Moonray is a science-fiction battle game set on a distant, post-human world where players engage in melee combat.
Known for its straightforward mechanics that can appeal to both casual and professional players, the game initially launched in July on the Epic Games Store, where it is still available in Early Access.
Built on Ethereum, Moonray incorporates optional web3 features, such as token transactions and wallet connectivity, offering blockchain interactions for players who wish to use them. However, these features are optional, allowing traditional gamers to play without engaging with blockchain elements.
What can we expect with the mobile release?
The mobile version of Moonray is supported by the MNRY protocol, a tool developed by the Miium Foundation to enable smooth blockchain interactions across PC and mobile platforms.
The game’s combination of blockchain and traditional gaming features allows it to cater to a wider range of players, from web3 enthusiasts to those interested only in a conventional gaming experience.
The studio has partnered with Reel FX to develop an animated series based on Moonray, aiming to build the game’s story and characters further. Additionally, a graphic novel, Mother’s Skin, is available at select retailers in North America and the UK, providing new content for fans of the game’s science-fiction universe.
What’s next for Moonray?
Moonray Studios is also planning to bring Moonray to additional platforms, with a PlayStation 5 release scheduled for 2025.
Currently available in alpha on the Epic Games Store, the developers aim for the mobile release to boost player engagement and expand the game’s audience.
The upcoming console launch represents the next phase in Moonray’s strategy to make its sci-fi universe accessible across a variety of platforms.
