DWI charges after chase and crash of Bronco.

On the evening of April 3, calls came into Yadkin County dispatch from both a motorist and the NC State Highway Patrol dispatch in reference to a possibly impaired driver. The concerned motorist had witnessed multiple traffic infractions and erratic driving behavior by the operator of a blue Ford Bronco on northbound US-421 while in Forsyth County and coming into Yadkin County. Once Yadkin County telecommunicators had the concerned motorist on the line it was relayed to responding deputies that the driver of the Ford Bronco was still being erratic and had bounced off of a guardrail but was continuing northbound.

The closest responding patrol deputy found the vehicle just west of Yadkinville and initiated a traffic stop. However, the operator of the vehicle did not stop and continued on US-421 N. After a chase of several miles the operator took the Windsor Rd. exit in Hamptonville and struck the rear of a tractor trailer that was pulled out of the roadway and onto the shoulder of the exit ramp.

The deputy was able to remove the operator of the Ford Bronco and place him under arrest without further incident.

The operator, identified as Elijah David Kerr, age 22 of Winston-Salem, was charged with Driving While Impaired, Failing to Heed Light or Siren, and Flee/Elude Arrest with Motor Vehicle.

Kerr was placed under a $2500 secured bond and was scheduled for a court date of April 5.

Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office thanked the NC State Highway Patrol and the concerned motorist for their assistance with this incident.
