Elympics Survey Reveals Factors Driving Web3 Adoption

A new survey by Elympics conducted on September 7 to 10 has highlighted key factors influencing the adoption of web3 gaming.

The study, which surveyed nearly 1,000 global gamers, found that social platforms such as Telegram and competitive gaming models are central to web3’s growing appeal.

With financial incentives and easy access driving interest, web3 gaming is steadily gaining traction among a diverse group of players.

What did the survey reveal?

According to the survey, 79% of respondents engage with games daily, with more than half (54%) choosing to play via social platforms like Telegram. Mobile apps, including FC Mobile and Brawl Stars, also play a significant role, used by 16% of gamers. This data points to the importance of accessibility and seamless onboarding as crucial drivers for web3 gaming adoption.

One of the most significant findings is that 42% of respondents are primarily motivated by the opportunity to earn money through gaming. Additionally, 65% of players cited the competitive nature of games, specifically “compete-to-earn” mechanics, as a major draw. Another 14% pointed to community engagement as a reason for their continued interest in web3 games.

“We’ve seen a transformational shift in the gaming industry, powered by blockchain technology in recent years. However, while technology has developed it has failed in one critical element – web3 games onboarding has been too complex for many of the most avid gamers,” said Tom Kopera, COO of Elympics. “Our research shows that with the entry of social platforms such as Telegram into the web3 world and the growth of skill games with money competitions that are community-driven, we are seeing the start of mass adoption by players around the world. Gamers enjoy winning through competition and so we build games that meet this need. We believe blockchain gaming will create a more competitive and rewarding ecosystem, transforming mobile gaming from mere entertainment into a dynamic part of our digital lives.”

Whilst many are embracing web3 gaming, the survey also highlighted obstacles to further adoption. Among those who have not yet engaged with web3, 11% cited the complexity of using cryptocurrency, particularly wallets, as a barrier. There was also dissatisfaction among some respondents with the quality of available web3 games, indicating room for improvement in this area.
